This position will report to the Director of Engineering and is a vital part of the injection molding team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight (8) years of successful injection mold processing experience in a manufacturing environment. The individual in this role will be responsible for analyzing, improving, and adjusting the molding machine processes to maximize cost, quality, and throughput of molding operations, by establishing process control guidelines. Candidates must be knowledgeable in trouble shooting molding processes to maintain consistent quality output.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for process development on all new injection molds using scientific injection molding techniques.
  • Working with Engineering, Quality, and Production Manufacturing to create a stable and sustained molding process for the manufacture of quality products.
  • Start-up/shut down of machinery, heater boxes, cooling systems, valve gate systems, color concentrate equipment loading systems, and power supplies to achieve standard operating efficiencies.
  • Set up and pull injection molds (as required), and dictated, by the production sampling schedule.
  • Troubleshoot existing processes to maintain or improve quality parts by the use of process controls.
  • Develop and maintain production process sheets.
  • Work closely with supervisors and operators to improve product flow, improve quality, and reduce scrap.
  • Provide instruction of established processes to mold setters and supervisors. 
  • Ensure and maintain injection molding process control and capability for all tools using scientific molding principles.
  • Lead and support implementation of Scientific/Decoupled Molding processes.
  • Lead molding improvements to include cycle time efficiencies, cavitation, scrap reduction, and establishment of optimal processing parameters.
  • Perform / assist with trouble-shooting, tool sampling, quality issues and training.
  • Provide solution on the technical issues for product qualification.
  • Monitor process performance in order to identify areas for improvement, coordinating corrective actions as necessary.
  • Project management to include DOE's and process capability studies.
  • Provide technical support for new tooling qualifications and process capability studies as required when requested by Applications Engineer or Mold Setters.
  • Recommend mold/equipment design changes and support capital equipment projects.
  • Support process improvement, cost reduction, and processing related corrective action teams.
  • Provide technical support for daily processing activities on production floor as requested by manufacturing cell managers.
  • Provide direction, training, and coaching for production and Mold Setters and new engineers.
  • Provide process related inputs for production and engineering quote preparation.
  • May require direct interaction with customer or vendor representative.
  • Support Company Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals and initiatives.
  • Participate & support in lean/continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Two (2) year technical degree or comparable work experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of prior experience in an injection molding environment
  • Eight years of successful plastic injection molding processing experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Scientific Injection Molding techniques
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and applications preferred
  • Ability to read measuring devices and interpret blue prints
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite a plus
